Around the 1850's this is where it started. Men like Don Melchor Concha Y Toro and Don Matias Cousiño started their famous vineyards and wineries and as they say "the rest is history". The Maipo Valley extends to the south and east of Santiago and, therefore, makes for an excellent day tour. You can visit 2-3 excellent wineries and still have time for lunch.
The soil and climate seem to favor the cabernet sauvignons, the merlots and other red grape varieties allowing for excellent full-bodied reds. Besides the famous established wineries in the area we will be happy to assist you in visiting several smaller "boutique" wineries that are producing award winning wines.
